The Spider Pendant

An extraordinary teacher, named Raven Keyes, came into my life last summer. Raven is a Reiki Master Teacher, Lightworker and all around Healer. After my first Reiki session with her, I was so moved by what I experienced that I decided to take the training to become a practitioner myself. Reiki has brought so many wonderful elements into my life, but most of all Raven.

So, I was quite surprised, and very touched when she asked me to create a spider pendant for her beloved husband. I said “Yes!” immediately — and then proceeded to panic. I’ve never carved a spider before and the thought of creating those delicate, spindly legs sent me into a tailspin.
Raven knew of my concern and finally just said to me, “You really need to stop worrying! The spider will look exactly as it’s meant to look and I know it will be finished at the perfect time!”

I made a deal with the universe: I would show up at my bench and Spirit had to work through me to make this happen.

I took photos along the way to document its creation:

Transferring the sketch to the wax

Me, connecting the dots
Carving out the spider

Taking out the weight in the back

Almost finished

The Spider Pendant, in sterling silver

This spider piece took around 8- 10 hours to complete, and I learned so much in the process. Enough that I asked Raven if I could make a copy of it just to keep for myself. It’s a wonderful reminder of how exciting it is to discover that you can do something you didn’t know you could.
If you are looking for a Reiki practioner, or interested in taking the training yourself, I can’t recommend Raven highly enough!
